The Protection of Bibliographic-Musical Heritage in Conservatories: Some Reflections and Perspectives

Authors

  • Elia Pivetta

Abstract

This essay starts by examining national laws about “music scores”, regarded as a subgroup of book assets, and goes on with a reflection on the bibliographic heritage preserved by the Conservatories. Since this falls squarely within the “cultural heritage” legal category, such institutions carry specific duties about preservation and good management, especially of old items. After noting the complex work that conservatory libraries carry out, part 2 discusses some possible future actions, such as hiring staff personnel endowed with the proper qualifications and skills, having the Administration’s multiple branches cooperate, or urgently rethinking the definition, status, and role of such libraries.
